MORE FAQ

Do you offer weekend wedding packages in Ontario?

Yes, our weekend wedding rental runs from Friday to Sunday. Giving you time to set up, celebrate, and clean up without feeling rushed. You can also extend your stay with additional nights for a more relaxed experience.

What is the capacity of Black Saddle Estate?

Our wedding and event venue can host up to 200 guests, so whether you’re planning something intimate or a full celebration, there’s room to make it feel just right.

Although we can accommodate 200 people, 130 to 150 max fits best. With 200 people you are more limited on your options for layouts and use of space.

Where is Black Saddle Estate located?

Black Saddle Estate is located in Callander, Ontario, just outside North Bay—about 1 hour from Muskoka and 3 hours from Toronto.

Close enough for convenience, far enough to feel like a true getaway.

What makes Black Saddle Estate different from other wedding venues in Ontario?

This is usually the question couples ask after they visit and it’s hard to put into one box, but here’s what stands out:

It’s the way everything flows together.

You’re not just booking a bar, you’re getting a full property designed for a seamless wedding weekend. The farmhouse, pavilion, barn, and grounds each serve a purpose, so your day feels natural and unforced.

You also have time on your side. A full weekend rental means you’re not rushing in and out. You can actually settle in, connect with your people, and enjoy the experience.

And then there’s the setting itself. It’s private, surrounded by nature, and close to North Bay, Muskoka, and Toronto, making it feel like a destination without being hard to reach.

Is the farmhouse included in the wedding venue?

Yes! The farmhouse is included in your wedding booking. It’s a bright, updated space with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and central air.

Perfect for getting ready, slow mornings, and winding down after the day.

Can we get ready on-site?

Yes. You can get ready on-site using the farmhouse or pavilion, depending on your preference and timeline. Both spaces offer plenty of room to get ready comfortably without feeling rushed.

Are there accommodations nearby for guests?

Yes, there are plenty of nearby accommodations in Callander, North Bay and the surrounding area, just a short drive from the venue.

We provide a curated list of hotels, cottages, and group-friendly stays once you book, and our wedding packages include bus transportation options to make things easy for your guests.

Are there multiple ceremony locations on the property?

Yes! You’re not locked into one spot.

You’ll have access to multiple ceremony locations across the property, including open lawn spaces, scenic backdrops, and the option to use our mobile wood arbor to customize your setup.

Is there a rain plan for outdoor weddings?

We do and it’s a good one.

The pavilion is covered, heated, and right on-site, so you don’t have to stress about weather changes.

Our heated pavilion is available for cocktail hour, ceremony or reception, so your day can continue smoothly no matter the weather.

The barn is also an option if you want to move everything indoors.

Do we need to leave the property for photos?

Nope and honestly, you won’t want to.

Between the gardens, open fields, ponds, trails, and wild grasses, everything is right here.

What furniture and décor are included with the venue?

We’ve got your base covered so you’re not starting from scratch:

- 200 white garden chairs
- 26 Harvest tables + 4 plastic tables + 1 bar height table
- 8 Wine barrels, antique pieces, and misc items

You can keep it simple or build on it. Either way, it works.

We are adding on additional items, please see website and social media for updates!

Is there parking available on-site?

You bet! There's a huge parking lot with lighting, as well as spaces near the farmhouse. BSB can accommodate up to 105 vehicles with a hidden parking lot so your guests have plenty of room and your wedding photos stay clear of parked cars..

Is your barn wedding venue accessible?

Yes—Black Saddle Barn is designed with accessibility in mind. The barn, pavilion, and washroom facilities include features like automatic doors and accessible washrooms, making it easier for guests with mobility needs to move comfortably throughout the space.

There are a few stairs leading into the farmhouse as well as stairs to get to the bedroom floors in the farmhouse.

Do we have to rent bathrooms?

Nope! We have a bathroom building with a wheelchair accessible one as well. It's a permanent bathroom building. No stinky portapotties here!

The bathrooms all have sinks for handwashing.

How big is the property?

We have about 51 acres.

Is there WiFi available at the venue?

Yes, all buildings on the property are equipped with Starlink WiFi, so you and your guests can stay connected throughout the day.

Can we bring our own vendors?

Yes. You’re free to bring your own vendors. We want you to build a team that fits your vision.

We have a list of amazing vendors that we can send you upon booking.

This isn't a "preferred" list, it's a list to help you get started. We want couples to be able to hire whoever they want! So, no preferred - this leaves people out: all are welcome. We don't take kickbacks from vendors to be on a list. That isn't a reason to refer to anyone. We truly just want the best fit for couples vision + budget.

There's so many great local businesses that we encourage you to use.

Do you provide catering?

We do not. We have a great dedicated space for caterers to use. We've been told it's "the best outdoor venue catering area". It's located in the basement of the barn, nice and close to the action. Garage doors make it easy for caterers to drive in and out to drop stuff off and pick it up. Caterers are required to bring in whatever they need. The area is equipped with a double sink, two freezers, a fridge/freezer, and two prep tables, with plenty of room for additional prep tables to be brought in.

Do you offer transportation for guests?

We do! In all of our new bookings, a shuttle is included. This is one pick up in North Bay to bring guests out to the venue. And it also includes two return trips at the end of the night.

Times and locations will be discussed with the couples based on their timelines.

Can we have our rehearsal dinner at the venue?

Yes and we highly recommend it.

You can use the barn, pavilion or outdoor spaces for your rehearsal dinner and turn your wedding into a full weekend experience.

Do we really need to hire a day of coordinator??

It is highly recommended!! This will be money well spent in our opinions. They can help with all of the final touches, be the point person for all of the questions everyone will have, and they can also help move the chairs from the ceremony to the reception *ask your coordinator for their specific role and what they do/don't do.

There is a LOT to do during a wedding day. It's nearly impossible for one person to do it all. Hiring the proper staff will ensure your day goes smooth and you are stress free!

Can we have our pets there?

We are also animal lovers. For the beginning part of your day, ceremony, and photos, yes have your pets there. We prefer that pets don't stay overnight as this causes stress on our pet. They are in a new place, and it is loud - it will be less stressful for everyone if they sleep elsewhere. There are many services nearby that we can give you to help with this!

We've had everything from dogs to donkeys here! Let us know your idea and we can work it out.

Can we do the meals ourselves?

No, not only is this a huge undertaking and trust us, everyone who has done it has ran into issues! The municipal bylaw and Health Unit Regulations also prohibits anything other than caterers.

We do have a designated indoor catering area - the caterers are welcome to bring a BBQ or Smoker etc.

Hiring the proper staff will ensure your day goes off without a hitch!

Is this venue LGBTQ+ friendly?

Of course. Anyone and everyone is welcome here!

Do you offer elopement packages in Ontario?

Yes! Our midweek elopement packages (Monday–Wednesday) include access to the barn, farmhouse, and property for 10 hours (2pm–midnight), plus bus transportation (one return trip home).

Do you offer winter weddings at Black Saddle Barn?

We do but availability varies depending on the season.

Winter weddings are typically hosted in the heated pavilion, which provides a comfortable and flexible space for your celebration.

Do you host private events or non-wedding celebrations?

Yes! We host private events in Ontario like birthdays, markets, anniversaries, bridal showers, and corporate gatherings or retreats.

Our base package includes:
- 4 hours in the pavilion + washroom building
- 4 picnic tables + 4 plastic tables with linens

The pavilion can host:
60–80 guests (seated with tables)
Up to 170 guests (ceremony/chair setup)

We also offer custom quotes if you’d like to use more of the property or tailor the space to your event.

Is the barn heated?

It is not. However, there are options to rent pre-approved heaters from local companies. These will never fully heat the space, but it does help take the chill off in those cooler months.

If you're wanting something closer to winter, we recommend the pavilion instead of the barn. The pavilion is heated.

Is there smoking allowed?

There is no smoking in ANY of the buildings. There is a designated smoking area and this is the ONLY space where smoking of any kind is permitted. All waste must be put into the appropriate bin provided.

This includes vaping and e-cigarettes, and any other kind of smoking.

Are candles permitted?

No flame candles are allowed. We ask that only flameless candles are used.

Do we require liability insurance?

Yes. You are required to buy coverage for your event. We will give you all the details upon booking. Our insurance company also provided a discount code for all of our couples!

What do we have to rent?

That depends on your vision!

Some guests choose to rent a second set of chairs. But it's not necessary.

Do you offer photogaphy?

Sara is a photography and would love to document your beautiful story; however, if you have another photographer you love, you are more than welcome to hire them instead. Any other photographer is welcome.

Sara can also recommend some amazing photographers if her style isn't your vibe!

Do we have to pay a deposit?

To secure your date(s), we do require a 50% non refundable retainer.

Can we use glass in the barn?

Yes! Because we don't have livestock on site, using glass is not an issue. However, we do recommend switching to plastic after the dinner. As the night goes on, and guests get a bit tipsy, glass is bound to break. It's totally up to you though!

Can we pay via debit or credit card?

No, email transfer is the only method of payments.

Can our friends do the bartending?

You can have a friend do the bartending as long as they have a valid Smart Serve Certificate. You will need minimum two bartenders. The bartenders must follow all Smart Serve rules and cannot be drinking.

We recommend hiring a professional bar service - we have a list that suit any budget!

Who Decides what we charge for our bar?

You do! You decide if you want an open bar or to charge. We suggest not having an open bar all night (during cocktail hour is nice and wine on the tables), and then charge even a toonie for the reception portion. People are very wasteful with an open bar!

Whatever you charge, you keep the profits! Be sure to communicate this with guests to ensure they bring cash if you are charging - or bring a debit machine if you have one.

Is there an ATM on site?

No. For safety reasons, we do not keep any cash on site. If you are having a cash bar, ensure you communicate to your guests to make sure they bring cash with them.

Is the barn closed in?

No. The barn walls are made of barn board only. This means you can still see outside in some areas - which is lovely when the light shines through!

This also means that the elements can still get into the barn at times, so plan accordingly.
